Well fella's this may be the last post on the "Jacobra" project as I've found it not only had an engine fire, but it's also burnt up under the dash. When I bought the car I knew it had an engine fire, so I was very careful, or so I thought. To check for all the tell tale signs of a dash fire, smoke stains on the windshield, wrinkled or misshapened dash pad, melted ac or heater vents. Not finding any of these, and the man I bought it from's assurance, that he didn't believe it had gotten that far, I bought her. Well fast forward to the present. I was pulling the seats and then began removal of the center console. When i got to the passenger side I went to remove the screws that hold the little ac vent, weren't visible??? I looked again??? the screws still weren't visible, so I got a hold of it and tugged a little to my surprise it pulled off over the screw heads. upon close examination I found the edges of the Ac vent I had just removed were slightly melted, my heart sank then I removed the cover panel and the wiring is toast! You can see the heater box was burned up, etc.etc. I can't believe this car didn't burn all the way to the ground. So I'm pretty dishearted with the whole thing. I've invested lots of time and effort trying to create a one of a kind Hot Rod. Now all I have is Junk! I'm tentatively looking for a parts car but everything is quite a ways away, and funds are a little limited, so I may be forced into Giving up. Which isn't in my vocabulary!!! I guess I'm just whining cause I'm between a rock and a hard place. I guess after all these years I'd be used to it.

Well that is disheartening.
Would a painless wiring system not be a possibility? I realize that you are then talking about $$ and the "painless" headache but you could continue on.
Then again, maybe this is life's way of putting you back into Mach 1's!

I wish it were that simple. It's all burnt the Ac/Heaterbox is completely deformed and rusted. Everything I can see is melted, deformed, or charred. Then there is the fact that it is a Jaguar? I hadn't even looked to see if Painless offers anything at all for Jags? But with everything damaged a parts car is probably my best option. I still can't believe this car didn't burn completely??? Maybe another Ford but not a Mach1. I'd be divorced

Sorry to hear the news about your Jacobra project. I am sure you are beyond disappointed. Try this search engine for looking for parts. It actually looks at all Craiglist ads up to any distance you select from your zip code. Just type your zip code and what you are looking ford.

Yeah Mike search tempest is a pretty cool site. I found it the other night, and using it, I've found several XJS. Now all I have to do is figure out how to afford one, and then go get it, as the closest one is about 350 miles away. There are actually 2 of them, package deal, for a fair price, but that would involve 2 trips, Oh and then there is the problem of the wife thinking I already have two many "flower pots" as she calls them, go figure???

Well I've been a long standing member of the Mach 1 Club and made a ton of friends. When this all started I was about 21 years old (1979) I bought a stock 71 Mach 1 from my (ex) wifes mother. I threw a rod through the side of it, umbrella seals came apart and seized the oil pump. I found a junkie that needed a fix, he had spent about $2500.00 on a build up of a 351C. (I gave him $200.00) This equated to 500+hp. I bought it in wrapped in baggies. I built it and spent a little money to finish a few things, then stuffed it into my Mach 1. Well it was a Monster! I absolutely Loved it!!! Well my wife, after 3 years became my "ex wife", But I kept my Mach 1. Well I got remarried to my wife, (of over 35 years now), 2 weeks after my divorce was final. I did it right the second time. My wife had some disdain for my Mach 1 since it had been my ex wifes mothers car originally. Times got hard raising kids, and we needed a pickup to move so I traded the Mach 1 for a 67 Ranchero, kinda like a pickup. Well the 5 kids all grew up, things calmed down after they started getting married, and Dad decided it was time for another Monster. I've had plenty of hot rods and fast cars, but they usually had to do duty as the family car/transportation as well. So I decided to build another 71 Mach 1, a Monster!!! I began searching and found three cars, in the end I paid $2600.00 for 3 cars I wouldn't have given more then $50.00 for any one of the three, 30 years ago! Well after all the searching and chasing these cars Buying parts and gathering stuff, I couldn't figure out why my wife had no interest in them and wouldn't lift a finger to help me??? So I asked her what was up with that??? She said she felt I was trying to relive my life with my Ex! I said are you crazy? I said why the H.E. double hockey sticks didn't you say something ! Like before I spent all that money, and 3+ years. Well about that time I found this Black 1989 Jaguar XJS. I had driven one when I was working at a dealership when I was 19, and fell in love with it. So I sold the Mach1's and bought the Jag. Well it had an engine fire and after not being able to find, or afford the parts to fix it. I got the bright Idea to to stuff a 650+ HP "460 Ford" down it's throat and call it a Jacobra. Sort of the marriage of a Jag and a Cobra. Kinda like "my" Cousin did, ya Know "Carroll" ??? Well all I can say is the guys here have been very supportive, of me in my Craziness! and as you can tell My heart is still deeply rooted in all things "FORD". I'm a Shelby for Gods Sake! So now your up to speed.

That's quite a story. Pretty brave to go out and buy three more 1971 Mach 1's. Maybe a 1969 or 1970 Mach 1 wouldn't have caused any issues. If you like the earlier models.

I like all years of the Mustang, Especially 69 Mach1's and Shelby's. The only thing is they are kinda like Camaros, at a car show everybody's got one! I mean how many ways can you do a Mustang??? The 71-73 body was the bas---d child for so many years. It was out of the mainstream for so long, it was almost like they didn't exist at car shows. I go to several shows, and you're lucky to see 1 maybe 2 out of a couple hundred cars. So they still appear fresh. I'm pretty undecided as what to do, but it'll come to me.
