I know I mentioned the 69 Camaro Pace my parents purchased in the late 70's for $750. I remember this car on the road in the very early 80's and when my mother had a fender bender with it. Since then the car under went a restoration with all NOS parts when they were still available. The fenders and battery tray still have GM stickers on them! The restoration work was never completed and sat in my parents garage since the 80's. It was left to my son and I have been helping him with completing the restoration. We have completed some unfinished metal work LH wheel well as well as the trunk and installed a complete new rear suspension. I know it's a Chevy but it is a true Z11 Pace car. It's the only Camaro you will find with both SS and RS options. Here are some very cool pictures of a number's matching Pace car. Too bad it couldn't be a Ford:

Well your rebuilding a legacy, handed down from your parents, and now you and your son are working together. Only good things can come from this. At least there is a Mustang sitting next to it. Is that yours or your sons?
Say 3 "Hail Fords" and we'll forgive you! LOL! Really it's a pretty cool car, not very many SS/RS Camaro's out there. When you're done tell the Kid to "sell it" as it is pretty rare! Then use the money to buy a nice Mach1!!!

This is all new to me. Is this what you have?

If so, I glanced at a few EBay prices for them. More valuable than many Mach 1's. You're not planning for it to be a daily driver?

Yes, Hail Mary x 3! Believe me I wish he would sell it and buy a nice Mach 1. Plus I think he would end up with a few extra $$'s to boot.

The Mustang belongs to a friend of mine. He sort of lost his license for a couple of years if you know what I mean. I kept the car at my garage but when I picked up the Fairlane I moved it to my mother's house. It should be gone by this September.

Yup...that is the car. It was produced at the Norwood plant. The car has the orange stripes and bright orange interior. You can still see the orange paint on the cowl. It is my understanding when you purchased the car new the pace car decals were in the trunk if you wanted to put them on the car.

Helping my son with this car is a challenge for me. We are putting back together what someone else took apart. I am so use to Fords I pretty much know where every nut and bolt goes. Not so much with this car.

Yeah Chevy had their own way of doing things. It's definitely a different animal. Here's an interesting thought to ponder ??? A Mustang is a horse, a Impala is an animal, a Lesabre is a sword,

Where did they come up with this Shit??? Did they just make it up?

It makes you wonder who comes up with names for cars. I must admit the words they choose do fit the cars.

Anyways I looked it up online and it supposedly it is French for friend. Others say it means a small viscous animal that eats Mustangs. Since the Mustang came before the Camaro and the Mustang was so popular when it was introduced the model name Camaro would be an appropriate marketing name.

Shouldn't be too bad to assemble. GM products always seemed a little more straight forward and simpler than Fords. Got to admit, it definitely has a better front suspension and steering design than Ford used back then.

I inherited my Mach 1 after it was completely disassembled. That didn't seem to make it much more difficult for assembly.

Mike,

The difficult part is finding all the nuts and bolts, little clips and things like that. My parents only bought Chevy's, and my step father could put the car together blindfolded so he never bagged and tagged or took pictures of anything. Even the rear leaf spring set up is different. The front leaf spring eyes goes into a cup or cradle and then bolted to the frame. Not difficult but different. So basically it is all the small stuff like that which I am not familiar with. It's kind of just being in uncharted waters for me. I am much more familiar with Mustangs.

It looks like you're doing a good job with it. Have you come across anything yet and thought, I wished Mustangs were setup that way?

When I got my Mach 1 parts were in several places because my brother couldn't fit everything in his two car garage. The big interior items were in his garage. Other parts were in a storage locker. Some parts were at his in-laws' house in another town.

I purchased a book with exploded view assembly drawings which helped a little. There's probably something like that for Camaro's as well.
