I still have to reinstall it in the car. The gear install on the bench is the easier part. I found some Duplicolor Ford Red Engine enamel that looks very close to the original Red/Orange color. I am going to try it. I'll let you know if it looks correct.

The 80W90 gear oil I purchased is for limited slip differentials. As best I can tell it contains friction modifier. I am thinking of not putting in any additional friction modifier this time. Any thoughts on that?

It is not necessary to add the friction additive if the oil indicates it for limited slip differentials and contains the friction modifier. I had the same question several months back when I dumped my break in oil. I did my research and determined it was not necessary to add the friction additive. As an fyi, I using the Valvoline High Performance 80W-90. Just to be sure, I laid down a posi-shot and sure enough both tires spin!

I have the same gear oil. Those were my thoughts also, to not include additional friction modifier.

The third member is installed but haven't had a chance to drive it yet. I ended painting it with Ford Red engine enamel. I don't know if that's 100% correct. But to me it looks correct.

Glad to hear it is ready to go. Let us know how it goes with the test drive. In regards to your paint choice, as long as your happy with it that's all that counts. You can't see it unless you are underneath the car anyway. Keep us posted.

Just to be sure, I laid down a posi-shot and sure enough both tires spin!

You never can tell when the posi just might not be working. It is advisable to repeat that test every so often just to make sure everything is still in working order. Caught driving without a working posi is EMBARRASSING! :)

I have to say it's one of the more simple tests to do in auto mechanics (LOL)!
