When I first bought my Mach 1 I was impressed by the rust free outer panels.
Not long after buying it, I discovered that the underside of the hood had some rust getting goin' so I slapped on some POR 15. Stopping that rust let me move that repair to the
back burner. Recently my mechanic was replacing worn bushings etc. on the front supension. Mechaniclly the front needed little but he pointed out to me that the fender apron was rusting out, where it meets the frame. The passenger side is O.K., on the drivers side, however, There is a band .75" to almost a full inch above the frame and nearly 8" in length that is gone! I know that the shock towers are a big part of the structure,
so I want to fix (patch it) sooner rather than later. Many mustang parts websites advertise entire aprons which are sold in 2 pieces front & rear. So I was wondering if any one else has ecountered this issue. Will I have to remove the front suspension (on the rusty side) in order to get the clearance or access to replace the apron? Also wondering if anyone knows of a parts vendor that has just the lower section of the aprons for sale? So far it's still solid enough that they were able to aline the front, but my mechanic made it clear that it needed attention, Soon!
Thank You,
Keith S.
P. S. As always I look forward to any & all feedback
