back when i lived in Idaho, I had a personalized plate that read "761 MPH".

I thought I was being clever, but unfortunately it just looks like a normal set of random letters and numbers, and most never caught the significance.
I think it was really only two people that ever commented on it...

I may see if its available for my car here.

Unless someone paid very close attention in school or either flown a jet I would assume most people would not pick up on it. I like it!

But just imagine how many people you confused who racked their brain for hours trying to come up with the significance.

Yeah pretty neat idea, and as Mustang Mike said you would have had payed attention in school. Or be old enough to remember when it actually happened! JTS 71 Mach1

Even though many airplanes can fly faster than the speed of sound, whenever i hear the term "Mach 1", I only ever think of the SR-71 "Blackbird"...don't know why. (and of course...our Mustangs!)

The plane that came to my mind was the X15. but as I remember it was a rocket plane not a Jet, and I believe it went way faster then 761 mph. So I looked it up. The first jet plane to have a sustained flight, (not in a dive) past Mach1 was, The Bell X1 Piloted by Chuck Yeager in 1947. Just a little more added to the puzzle. JTS 71 Mach1
