My Daimler Project

Wow that has turned out to be a very nice looking Jag OOOPPPPPSSSS I mean Daimler! LOL! It does have some subtle differences when compared to the Jag's. Is it any nicer/ fancier, inside or about the same? Nice Car. JTS 71 Mach1

Very, very close to 'about the same'.

British Leyland 'badge engineering' really. It could be suggested that the Daimler badged vehicle was targeted at existing (older) Daimler owners rather than trying for a younger market (Jaguar).
There was almost nothing in it. Fluted grill top and boot lid handle, 'D' on hub caps and steering wheel center just about sums up the differences.
Marketing ploys to attract customers from a wider demographic to the parent company.
I think it is pretty low geared, 3000rmp at 60mph (100kph) in the highest gear. Couple that to 4.2ltr (250ci?) and 2 SU carbies and it drinks fuel like it owns an oil well.
I had an XJ6 in England and now this one out here. With closed eyes you would not know which one you were sitting in.

Thanks for the effort. Nice looking Daimler.

Although I am not as keen on the high temperatures as I used to be, 40 degrees is bearable. Of course that's coming from someone raised on the equator and who has lived most of the rest of his life in the heat.

Oh well, enjoy the drive with the air on.

That must be the reason for the dual filler inlets / tanks. At least with fuel prices down as they are here you can at least afford to go around the block. Our fuel is about $1.75 US per gallon. You'll have to do the math for me please. As I know you all go by Liters and pounds. JTS 71 Mach1

Actually M1FF is in Australia and they go by litres and dollars.

So a gallon is 3.785 litres and today the U.S. Dollar is worth 1.34128 Aussie dollars.

1 gallon equals 3.785 litres at U.S. $1.75 or AUD $2.35 a gallon or AUD $ .62 a litre as that is how it is sold down under.

Now ask about the approximate fuel economy and see what kind of response you get. It'll be something about so many litres every 100 k's.

It'll wear ones tyres out just thinking about it. And that's without opening the bonnet or throwing anything into the boot, never mind the spanners ..

Fuel price today in Perth (it goes up and down like a yo-yo) is $1.25/ltr for 98 octane - all I buy - although 91 and 95 are also available.

Fuel useage in the 'Chrome Baby' is about 14ltrs/100km as near as I can judge. I think this is 20 miles/imp gallon.

The speedometer was in MPH - now changed to KPH thanks to one of my parts cars.
Both my parts cars had tow bars. One now on the Chrome Baby with another bank of relays supplying the trailer connection. I am always left gasping by the shocking standards adopted by some people who charge money to work on others cars. It turned out that all the bolts mounting the tow bar matched, but NOT each other!!
MY local bolt supply shop loves me!

Pictures to follow, honest!

But you knew all that going into the project, it's a Daimler!

Ah well it will be nice with it all freshened up. It's what we do.

The 'Evil Repair Pixies' got me the night before the show. It's not often you break a rotor arm in half at 1130 at night when the show is the next day.
I got the 'Tough Luck' award though. I will have it 3D framed with the two rotor arm parts.
I have some pictures of the re-made rear parcel shelf. MDF rather than hardboard/Masonite. New rear speakers WITHOUT the air gap surround. I'll post a picture or two from home later.
