I checked out 'the net': Mexican fuel is about Au$0.15 cheaper than Australian. UK is TWICE the price. Cheapest is Venezuela where it is almost 'We pay you'.
He may do, but I enjoy accurate and informative posts.
I have now removed both the fuel tanks, the dash and the doors, bonnet, and boot are off. The way this thing was built is an extravegance! It runs a loom down each side rather than one that then goes across. Must have at least 50' of extra wire in every car. Each fillament of the headlight system has its own fuse!!
Although it pre-dates EFI and multi speaker car sound systems there are looms (plural - above and below the center dash) nearly 2" in diameter in places. They did everything the hard way.
It looks like the old analogue clock can be replaced with one from a S1 Suzuki Vitara (Sidekick?). Not near original but tells the time!
I am pulling the loom out to do repairs on the other car using original spec wires. I hope my efforts will look 'factory' to the unknowing masses.
I have now got the rebuilder inside and the stripper outside. I am reluctant to get rid of it until the rebuild is complete as I am sure to have left some clip or bracket behind - caught like that before.
Because of the small rust area in exactly the wrong place the first part of the rebuild was to let 15ltrs (3+ gallons?) of water out of the foot wells.
The doors and front wings (fenders) are off. Next is engine and fuel tanks out and most of the interior. It has a propane conversion that will get ditched as well. I am no fan of converted (dual fuel) vehicles. Then off for welding.
I will post some pictures later.
Well, the best laid plans.....
There I was at a Daimler Club meeting and a member turns up with the S1 Sovereign he wants to sell as his wife does not like it.
He is selling for less than it would cost to respray/retrim the better of my two.
So now I have a dark blue one (Paint coulour called - wait for it- Dark Blue) that is shiny, runs and registered. Needs brushes in the alternator. Not exactly too difficult!
The plans for the othe two are strip, cut and turn the boot (trunk) areas into an interesting trailer. Google 'half Capri trailer' to see my inspiration. Mine will only be single axle. I will post a concept picture from home.
Talk about changing horses mid stream. Hope the Dark Blue one is all it should be. Your trailer Idea is great and shouldn't be to difficult. Definitely a one off. Cool all the way around. JTS 71 Mach1
