Got a question. What is the RMS or speaker output per channel of a 1978 factory Ford 4 channel stereo. Its looks like those installed in the 71 to 73 models but it has 4 speaker channels instead of the usual 2. I have fitted one to my 72 Mach 1 as it looks correct and now i am looking at suitable speakers. I'm not after any high powered unit or amps etc..I just want the factory look with the added bonus of 4 speakers. The stereo came from a 78 Mustang 2 Cobra if this helps anyone. I have attached a photo that shows the unit. Notice the left right slide bar under the pushbuttons. I really would love to know the factory specs of it. Many thanks
Great answers and very confusing....So does anyone know what the output is per channel eg 10W

1969M1 - I have UK qualifications - an O.N.C. in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, A City and Guilds Automotive Technicians Certificate (with Distinction) and the City and Guilds Certificate for Police Officers in Vehicle Examination Techniques. That and being 63 helps. Check my profile -if you haven't already.
JP - Bank on 15w (RMS) maximum per channel, so 7.5w per speaker. Aim at 30w speakers and mount them carefully. You will be fine. Back in the day huge output was not available.
Oh look! Two more threads - 'Speaker Mounting 101' and 'Speaker Selection by Specification: Techniques for Beginners'.

I got you. It's kinda tough for others, when you know all the big words and what they mean, not just how to spell them!

Have to share this one:
There I was buying a cheapie Blue-Ray player for my projector and discussing amplifier performance / compatability with the tech adviser/sales man.
This ocean going genius told me that RMS Watts means the unit must be stereo!!

Not exactly sure what that means but it is a catchy sounding expression.
