The one time I tried an RPM Air Gap on my 351W I modified a Moroso aluminum air cleaner base to drop the air cleaner down. I got the air cleaner to clear the hood with about 3/8" clearance. But then the air cleaner lid was almost contacting the top of the choke horn and the vent tubes on my Holley carb. As you probably know, the way the K&N filter lid is designed it would have made things even worse. I wasn't happy with that so I decided not to use the RPM Air Gap. Plus Holley tech told me 1" minimum clearance between the top of the carb and air cleaner lid is needed for good air flow into the carb. You also don't want the bowl vents close to the air cleaner lid.
From the picture your motor looks to sit lower than mine. I could be wrong. I am guessing by the large amount of clearance you have between the top of your valve covers and the shock tower bracing.
