Yes, the magnetic pick-up fixed the ignition problem. I did get an extra one and it can be changed without pulling the distributor. It only takes a few tools, allen wrench, 11/32 open end wrench, and a feeler gauge. It still takes about an hour when leaving the distributor in the motor. Hope it doesn't happen while driving.
Mikestang might have the right idea. I think I'll put together some small parts like this that can leave you stranded plus the tools to install them, and carry them in the car.

Mike

Hey it can't hurt to keep extras with you. My tool bag also has been handy to others at local swap meets who needed a tool or two to stop a leak.

What a beautiful car. I bet any of us here would be proud to have that under its cover, waiting for the next run/show.
On the tool kit thing: I just got from my Snap-On man the Blue Point kit that is 1/4 and 3/8 drive, with combination spanners, in both imperial and metric. Totally contained in a hard plastic case with a labeled place for every part. The Aus version lacks screw driver tips for the 1/4 driver though. Fairly $$ but with it, a globe kit and a roll of good tape - If you can't fix with that you have to reach for your mobile (cell) and hope your buddy is home.
If you want to look the Snap-On part number is: BLPGSSC155

I checked that part number out online and yes that is a nice set and I don't usually say that to guys (LOL)!
Whenever you buy Snap-On or their Blue Point line it's always big $$ but you're paying for quality tools. And you're right, if that set doesn't do the job a cell phone will.

I just now looked. That is a nice compact tool kit. I didn't know Snap-On offered something that large organized in a tool case.
