1969 Mach 1 Pictures
#1
I uncovered my 1969 Mach 1 took some pictures of it today. It was a rainy and I used my old digital camera. So, we'll see what happens. I'll try a couple at a time. If all goes well I'll add a couple more later.

For sheet metal, all but the rt. front fender and front and rear lower valences are original to the car. Those few replacement sheetmetal items were purchasd so long ago they are from my local Ford dealer. The wheels and bumpers are unrechromed and original to this car. My dog in the pictures is sleeping away the rainy day.

If your curious, the paint is old school Acrylic Enamel with a gloss hardener. I originally wanted a two stage urethane but the painter wanted to use the type of paint that was as close to the original as possible. I'm glad he talked me out of the two stage urethane. FYI, everything along the wall is anchored to the wall or floor so nothing will fall on the car, plus the car is always covered.

Though not installed, I have saved the original power steering and under hood factory A/C components.

Now that's a nice Mach1. If they were all that nice we wouldn't have forums on how to fix them 578254 Very nice my friend. JTS 71 Mach1

Thanks for the positive feedback. Like anything else, its not without flaws. But it represents many years of doing things over and over until I am satisfied. I continue to tinker with it. But now its more preservation, such as making certain the brake hydraulics are in good order.

I've tossed around repainting the black a satin black, closer to the original. But I know, and like the painter told me, I'd eventually be fighting a chalky finish on it without a clear coat paint system.

Best Regards,
Mike

I don't think I would repaint the black on the hood. Since looking at your pics, I really like the shiny black on the hood, and damn the purists Icon_tongue , it is your car after all. JTS 71 Mach1

I'm sure I'll leave it with the gloss black. The gloss does seem to match very well. Plus, every time I look through my Mustang Restoration guide or Mustang Chronicles books, depending on the car, the original flat black sometimes looks unfinished to me.

Mike

Yes - leave it gloss black. I intentionally went glossy on mine because the flat will simply burn up in the West Texas sun. At least with the glossy finish, it can be waxed to help fight off the sunburn. Biggrin

With your color combination the gloss looks good, like it was supposed to be that way. I saw all the rust repair you did in the pictures on your face book page, nice work. That's no easy task. On the west coast we typically don't see rust to those extents. I'm surprised a Texas car had that rust.

I was fortunate, there was only some surface rust on the roof. I media blasted the entire car, but that surface rust sanded off easily.

Best Regards,
Mike
