clutch fork?

Sounds like, use it for a wheel chock and start over with the right stuff. Don from Ohio Mustang chimed in a couple of posts back give him a call. I'm sure he can get you the right stuff to make it work again. JTS 71 Mach1

Apparently the attempt to use that fork work failed. Like JTS says start over with the right parts and keep that fork as a conversation piece!

So I have found out why they lengthened the clutch fork. They did it so they could get past the headers for the rod coming from the equalizer bar could sit into position. Now that I have cut the clutch fork and put it back to normal length does anyone know how this can be accomplished with your headers in the way of where your rod is suppose to push down on the fork.

Yeah buy the correct headers, as I would say you have a set for an automatic transmission car, and not a manual transmission. Hooker makes them. There may be others. do some research and you should be able to find some. JTS 71 Mach1

Well, it looks like the reason has been discovered.

I would conclude that the previous owner purchased headers for an automatic and could not return them. Instead of loosing his investment he invented. When you price the headers his thought pattern will be obvious.

Still, now is the time to set it right.
