Anyone running one of these on their toploader? I have the 1970 OEM Hurst shifter (replaced the Ford one that came on the '69) but I understand the aftermarket shifter is a lot crisper and has somewhat shorter throws.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Thanks, maybe I'll take one for the team then and let you guys know :) It's something I did myself in about 30 minutes on the T-6060. Something tells me this may take longer.... LOL

Sorry - I remember that - now.
Rob had tried to rebuild the original and was no happy with the outcome but he has been happy with the Hurst.

Cool. I have that plus an install kit on order. I also ordered an MSD 8595 Pro Billet distributor which is their 'all in one' solution (don't need the 6A/7 box) only it's not really because you still need an external coil :)

I HAVE THE HURST ON MY 69, BUT I WAS ONLY ABLE TO DRIVE IT A COUPLE OF TIMES AND IT IS NOW IN THE BODY SHOP FOR FINAL BODY WORK AND PAINT. THE THROWS ARE SHORTER AND I FELT LIKE IT SHIFTED WELL. I DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR WITH THE ORIGINAL SHIFTER BECAUSE BY THE TIME I GOT THE NEW ENGINE IN IT I HAD BROKEN THE ORIGINAL SHIFTER AND COULD NOT FIND A REPLACEMENT THAT SOMEBODY DID NOT THINK IT WAS MADE OUT OF GOLD. SO I BOUGHT THE HURST AND PUT IT IN. I DONT THINK YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.

Chuck,
I have a Hurst Competition Plus shifter in my 69 Mach 1. I am very happy with it. It has a very positive shift feel to it, it fits through the original opening in the floor, and the center console. I have nothing to compare it to. The repro OEM style shifter boot for the 1970 original Hurst shifter also fits, but the rubber is so rigid its hard to keep the shifter engaged in 4th hear. I installed a Hurst shifter boot and made a trim plate to utilize the 4 original 1/4-20 UNC holes in the floor opening.

I always liked and used Hurst shifters and never had a complaint filed with the complaint department! However, as a personal choice, I do not use the Hurst linkage clips provided with their install kit. I replace these with cotter pins as a little added assurance they won't pop-off.
