Remember when?

The car shows today resemble the school parking lots of yesteryear. When I went to high school in the 70's almost all the guys had muscle cars. The cars were around 10 years old at the time and were cheap to buy. In my senior year, I recall 1 '63 corvette, 2 big -block impalas, a vega with a transplanted 283, an AMX, a '69 mach-1 with a 428CJ, a '67 mustang GT 390-4spd, (4) 396 chevelles, a dodge super bee, and a '69 barracuda with a 383. I drove a '68 Olds 442.

This is a nice thread.

I went to high school in the early 1980's and everybody still wanted late 60's and early 70's muscle cars. They were still inexpensive and easy to find. Parts were easy to get. Big block motors from the major three were a dime a dozen. If you wanted new parts just walk into the parts dept of your local dealer. For used parts, wrecking yards had plenty of cars from that time period that a high school kid could afford. Restoration meant just that, and didn't include rustoration. If you said "I have a 1969 Mach 1" everybody knew what it was. Today, you need to include Mustang in the name because 75% of the people only recognize Mustang and not Mach 1 578254

Air was clean and sex was dirty?

As a kid in the UK I always had bigger cars than any of my friends. I spent about 2 months pay on insurance and did more naughty stuff on the back seat (oh yeah: front seat too: Sandra, where did you end up?) than I care to admit.

Those were the days...........Biggrin Icon_tongue Wave

Come to think of it My high School parking lot kinda looked like that I remember two 67 GTO's -6 Mustangs two 65's two 66s one 69 Mach1 and one 71 Mach1 a 69 Firdbird a 69 Charger 70 Challenger and a 68 Z28 Camaro. I'm sure I'm missing something and I'm not including all the British Sport cars.

It's funny you should say that it just happened to me. I ordered new tires for my 72 Mach1 and I did it and the guy asked the year make and model and when I said Mach1 he just starred at me. I had to say Mustang before he knew what I was talking about.

Do you remember Friday or Sat night hanging with all of you hot car buddies at the local Mc Donald's or some dinner or ice cream place talking cars and girls not doing anything illegal except maybe a few burn outs and cruising the main drags showing off our cars. Kinda like in American Graffiti. Those were the days.

mrmach1, One of the recent best I had was a guy looking at my car thought it was a Mach 5 ????? I thought, really, SCo_hmmthink apparently you're not even reading the decals on the car. I guess he was stuck on Speed Racer cartoons from his childhood. He was old enough to have seen these cars when they were fairly new. I guess just not much of a gear head.

Best Regards,
Mike
