As it is a nominal Daily Drive the basic stuff is all up to date.
It will get new ends and mains; trans service and the combustion chambers eased, due (again) to idiot previous repairs.
The %&*#$ thing will knock on Avgas at the moment, the CR is so high!!
First repair done! RH seat back trim was broken by some PO. Picked up a similar part from the wrecker. Had to CAREFULLY ease off the leather trim and swap it over. Yeah, I know it won't make it go faster but it does have to pass pre-raceday inspection. Good presentation is always half the battle.
One day I'll get used to the file sizing too!
Seat re-trim was very successful. They are every bit as good as OEM.
Glove box fell out three times. Weird hinges you have to get the correct way round. Finially solved it.
Next is front carpet clean and install. Very good weather for drying 35* days.
Yes Steven, the front carpet was from a wrecking yard. Just needs a good clean to remove the 'History of Fruit Juice' from it. I will only refit the driver's seat until after the meeting. I shall use the passenger seat mounts to hold a bracket that retains the fire extinguisher that is needed to pass pre-race inspection. I also drove out to the venue over the last weekend and drove the track (no planes flying, which surprised me).
Track is smooth and return road well compacted. The caravan park is a red desert with a toilet block and a BBQ. We will be OK for two nights though!! I will post pictures after the meeting so you all can get a completely wrong idea of what WA is like!!
The big weekend drawers near!!
I have replaced the big-ends, mains and piston rings on the E34. Now driving it everywhere to run it in - after 800km oil change and ready to go!
Only had one 1030pm night followed by an 1100pm w'shop night to get them ready. Thanks to the patient Ms M1FF for keeping the food and coffee comming
The E38 needed 5 new arms in the suspension!! Gotta love the pre-race inspections. Much better than dealer services and licence inspections. I'd rather know and fix them all. Some parts came out rattling like a kids toy - 1700kg of car must have REALLY moved them about!
Guess what? It does not clunk over bumps any more!! Now it needs a wheel alignment!
Trailing arm pivots on the E34 clapped out too - being changed for Sat 4th re-examination. Turns out cannot modify exhaust on E34 without $3k - not going to happen. Other than that looking good. Will put up some interior pix. No passenger seat(s) + fire extinguisher.
