When I first tried to set the timing on the daughter's Mach 1 I could not turn the distributor. I even thought there must be a second clamp!
I ended up with a partial unit tear down in situ to get an oil filter strap wrench round it. While I did the strip down I kept soaking the area in the ATF/acetone mix.
The best 'unusual' tool I used in this task was a 1/4" wood chisel in the join. Metal chisel too blunt in comparison. VERY gentle tapping and keep tension on the oil filter strap back and forward.
Once it starts to move the rest quite easy as the lube gets in the join. Still took 2hours and lots of rude words though.
