Ok, so this has happened twice. I put the Hurst toploader into reverse and back it up. I can come out of reverse and into the neutral position but then I can't get it into ANY gear after that. Either with the motor on or off. It's not the clutch pedal adjustment but the last time it happened I got under the car and pulled on the trans linkages and the farthest one made a 'click' sound and then all was working fine again. I suspect that the reverse shifter linkage is not properly adjusted and that when I went deep into the reverse position it somehow over-centered the reverse linkage and wouldn't allow me to select any other gear. Since then I have been VERY gentle going into reverse and only going into it as shallow as I can and still have it engage the reverse gears.
Haven't been home to get it up on jack stands to climb under and do the adjustment like everyone says by sliding an allen key into the hole that aligns the shifter.
I'll do this next week and change the trans oil and see if that fixes it.
Anyone else seen/heard this happen before?
