My 1965 Mustang
#1
As you all know I'm always looking for a car. Even if I don't keep them it is a great time buying and owning them for a little while and then moving them on to new homes. I've really been enjoying the heck out of the 65. I'm contemplating turning it into a Terlingua Racing/Shelby tribute. Easy to do and this 65 is rock solid and the factory 289 runs great, I even have an Arizona title declaring 68000 BOX A miles! This was a California Car, and California and Arizona dealt with one another before I could get this registered in my name and had to pass a Level II inspection.

Car was born and raised in California and owned by the same guy until 2009, when he passed away, after probate the mother signed the title over to the son. The son brought it to Arizona in 2009 and put it in his garage and rarely ever drove, only started. Car had expired tags on it from California 2010!!!!

Let me know your thoughts on tribute cars. Im never trying to make this as a actual Shelby, it is a clone of the racing heritage of Terlingua Racing/Shelby. If I own it I gotta make it mine. I watch to many Chip Foose shows and such!

Ill keep you all informed with the progress!

New Torque Thrust D wheels going on tomorrow! Ill post a photo once they are on the car.

I know the fastbacks are the sought after cars but I truly love the 65/66 coupes. Not only are they far more affordable, if they are done right, especially in the style of the race car you are describing, it will be super fun car to drive. I know original is better amongst some collectors but cloning this car would actually bring more to the table, especially for someone like me...so go for it!

Id love to have a fastback, but the cheapest I've seen one is around 15k and it would need everything.

I'm really going to keep this pretty simple with the resto mod. At this moment the motor runs great, but it needs brakes, and maybe a carb. Seems to want to run the idle up after its been set.

True Mustang purest wont like anything except period correct, but when the Mustang was born it was intended for people to make it their own.

It will be clean comfy and quick. I need more money! Pray

Needless to say the 72 is for sale.

Off to get new tires and rims. Awesome

Here is a picture of my first Mustang which started my obsession for these cars. It was originally a 6 cylinder car so I decided to do the restomod thing with it. I upgraded to a 302 motor, T-5 tranny and installed high performance suspension. I sold the car so I could buy my wife a much needed new car but sure wish I still had this one! What was important to me was making the car the way I wanted it. The car had a ton of torque, drove a very straight line and handled very well with the suspension I put in. What more can you ask for!

By the way, I changed the air cleaner to a 14 inch. I don't know what I was thinking with that one (LOL)!

Nice!

It is always amazing what a nice set of rims and tires does for a car.

Super looking little Mustang. I'm all in on the restomod idea, as you said you gotta make it yours and that's what they were designed for! Build a Race/Tribute car and drive it like you stole it!!! 3gears That's what I would do! Have fun man. JTS 71 Mach1
PS love the Torque Thrusts.
