429 Production Question
#1
I have tried to find out when Ford stopped production of the 429 Mustangs/Cougars (I also read somewhere the 429 Cougars were built on the Sam assembly line as the 429 Mustangs, anyone heard that?).

I know they were only built at the Dearborn factory. Does anyone know what actual month they stopped building them? All I have ever read was simply "mid year" the 429 engines were no longer available.

Anyone have an idea or seen any sort of documentation on this subject?

Yep, I have been there. It is a great site but does not appear to be updated since 2008.

1971 was the final yr of 429 Mustangs & Cougars; 429s continued in Torino, Montego, Ranchero & full size Fords until replaced by the 460 ('73 I think). '71 production wrapped up in July or August 1971. Hope this helps.

I should have posted. I found out from Kevin Marti that 429 production went the whole model year. It was just that not many were ordered which is good for me because it makes them rare and collectable. He did say that the Boss 351 stopped production during the year but was not specific to exactly when in the model year.

I remember starting this thread when I bought my 429 Mach 1. This information came from Adrian who posted it on a similar thread on anothe Mustang site so he gets the credit for it. It is really great detailed information on the production of 429 cars. Enjoy the information and history, I certainly did!
