New Member and 1970 Mach1 question

I recently picked up a 1970 Mach 1 with the 351C 4 speed and all the original build sheets from the original family. I'm looking to keep it as more of a survivor car and would love any advice I can get. The car is in good shape and I'm mainly doing maintenance items, I've got a friend helping me who is much more knowledgeable than I am (luckily!). I was hoping that someone would have a contact for repairing the original Autolite Carb. It has a model D00FAB/B917 and one of the threads from the upper/lower carb body is stripped.
I also was wondering if replacing the ball joints and shocks would take away from the cars value.
I look forward to being a part of this forum!
Thanks, Chris

Welcome Chris,
It looks like you have found a very nice car.
A couple of carb rebuild companies have recently begun operation but I do not recall the specifics. Can anyone else help out?
By all means replace any part that needs replacing for safety's sake, just use quality OEM type reproduction parts and your value should not be affected.

Welcome to the site...Cleveland with a 4 speed, what else can you ask for! The car looks great and it's not too often you see them this nice. Replacing parts like ball joints and shocks would not have any impact on the car's value and there's nothing better than having a mechanically sound ride. But like Steve says just look for quality OEM replacement parts.

Below is a link to a company specializing in the Autolite carbs. I am unable to attest to their reputation as I do not have personal experience with them other than they purchased a 2-barrel carb I was selling on e-bay. I also know they are a contributor on the Mustang Tek site.

Welcome and Nice Mach 1!! I've heard good and bad things about this company but every person I've known personally that went to Pony Carbs has been happy. Most of the negatives came from other forums I've read.

I heard the original owner of Pony Carbs passed away. Not sure what the reputation of the new owner it.

Welcome to the club, I'm not very knowledgeable about your carb. But I'm sure it can be fixed without a great deal of expense. Ball joints are wear items that almost every survivor car has had replaced at one time or another just use good OEM parts and the value won't be effected. The paint on your car looks amazing for a survivor car is it original or has it been resprayed at sometime?

Welcome. Nice and original looking ride. OEM parts will not detract from value.
Read some good things about the Autolite carb. Out here my carb man said it would cost more to restore than a new Holly. Guess what ended up between the valve covers. Kept the Autolite though, you never know.......

welcome! great car. ( i have the same car) The first thing u want to do is take that carb and put it in a box and save it for the next owner. I am sure u are going to get this car into driver condition. Unless u can find an expert on the autolite i think its a (4100 model number) witch could be the same price as a new carb. minus the horse power gain. The elderbrock or holley 750 will get u about 40 hp just bye bolting it on. The driveability will be increased by 200%. Save the old one for that concours restoration if that ever comes. good luck John
