NEED HELP PUTTING FENDERS ON!!!!
#1
Made a very big mistake. Please all take note very important not to make this mistake. I had a friend put my aprons on at his shop and never took pictures or made a template of the top of the aprons too re drill the holes for the fenders. I was hoping someone had pictures they could send me of the top of the aprons without the fenders on. Also if anyone has any tricks for drilling out the holes. I think one is oblong and the other square. Thanks Jim.
Oh and its a 1971 mach1.

Jim,

I will have to pass this along to the next one to come along as I do not have a specific picture that will help you and my Mach 1 is not out in my garage to either take a picture or describe and send you some measurements.

My aprons came with pre-drilled holes in them so in absence of another car to go off of I would try purchasing a set of aprons with pre-drilled holes already in them to make a template and transfer over to your aprons. Then you could return the aprons.

Here is a picture of my 66 which shows the position of the oval and square holes.

Remember, it's not the end of the world just a temporary set-back.

Thank you Mike. I believe all the 71-73's are not pre drilled because they are not one piece like the 66.They come front and rear with the shock tower in the center.

Jim,

The 65/66 came in separate pieces (front and rear aprons) as well. I will check tonight when I get home to see what I can locate.

Yes they are round / oblong and square
They are also alternating in position as you go down the line
Are the doors on ?
If so, I would suggest to mock up the fenders and hood.
Then mark the holes. Then verify with original measurements.

Drill the hole, then use a flat file to square it off

66 is nothing like 71 for placement, size or orientation

Ohio Mustang...why don't the 71 aprons come with pre-drilled holes? In my case I was missing the front aprons when I bought the car so it was convenient to have pre-drilled holes when I purchased the aprons.

I just put my fenders back on after paint. The holes are indeed square and this allows the J-nut to move both side to side and forward and back to allow for minor fender adjustment as needed. I am at work, but on returning home I can surely send you the pictures I took if that would help at all. Just message me direct through the site. I don't get home from work until Aug 30th late in the evening.

Mike - no one makes the 71-3's with pre-made holes
Why ? probably to save money.

The hole is square to let the J nut snap in
On 71-3's you get your in - out adjustment from the J nuts
You get your foward - back adjustment from the slotted holes on the fender

Do you still need pics / more info?
