Assembly after paint
#1
Well I promise pictures will come. On the what did I do today list, for me its more of what did I do the 2 weeks I was off work list. I work a 2 on 2 off work schedule. So 2 hitches ago I finished my painting. I painted my car in pieces since it was a color change. This time off I reassembled the rear of the car. Deck lid, trunk seal, honeycomb panel & trim, gas cap, taillights, rear window & seal & trim, rear valance panel & lights hooked up, and lastly the wing of course. Then onto interior I got the new carpet installed on fold down rear seat & accompanying floor panel, I installed the rear plastic interior pieces and rear quarter windows & weatherstrip. Before that I put Eastwood's version of dynomat on complete interior floor pans. Then I buffed & polished all original chrome pieces-IE: drip rail moldings, upper weatherstrip channels, front windshield trim, and my car has the lower body side trim that separates the lower black from the main body color, front twist hood locks, and the rear window trim & taillight panel trim, gas cap, door handles etc. Then installed half back half of the new carpet, Put new front & rear Mach 1 correct seat coverings on. I then temporarily fitted the hood and two front fenders but left the doors off until the rest of the carpet and corresponding plastic trim pieces are installed. I will finish adjusting hood & doors when I install doors. Then I reassembled the front doors with all new weatherstrip and cleaned glass track mechanisms. Then installed front fender & rear fender marker lights after cleaning & buffing the lenses then installed new air damn on front valance panel & turn signal lights. Whew that's about it for this last time home. This project was started 21 months ago with sanding original finish off and replacing rear trunk floor & taillight panel. Building my own new cowl piece from a 1972 torino since no replacement was available and most used ones are rusted as well. Then fixing all dents high spots etc. Then priming & blocking car straight and fixing what few things I missed the 1st go round, then re-priming and re-blocking to be sure it's way straight, then sanding in 3 steps 320, 400, and final sand 600 wet & dry to prepare surface for paint. then sealed and finally base clear coated and now on assembly. I will color sand and buff this winter, then install the new body side graphics and , however I have not driven the car in the time while "under construction" short of moving from place to place in my shop and one romp down the road with no doors, fenders, hood, deck lid or glass in the car to blow the dust off before final wipe down for being in homemade paint booth. Mind you the local law enforcement personnel didn't have such a sense of humor about that trip. Oh well they will get over it I am sure. So I hope to next time home finish up interior and doors enough I can at least start driving the car for the rest of the summer while finishing up the interior details. As far as pictures I have literally thousands that were taken during the entire process of before and after. I am just trying to get them all together in one place and in some sort of order. Once done I will post a few and see what kind of response and how many you all really want to see. Hope you all have a fabulous Mach 1 day.

We like pictures! Also keep in mind every person here is helping to give a history or a "how to" for future owners of Mach 1's and even current ones. So anything you add here could be a help to someone down the line. Sometimes the efforts you put into your restoration can be a major help to someone needing motivation. SSig_goodjob2

That is remarkable progress and I can't wait too see the final results. Call me an odd ball but for some strange reason I enjoy seeing pictures of restoration work more than I enjoy seeing the finished product. Same thing happens to me when I am looking at cars on e-bay. I always gravitate towards the rusty ones or the ones in primer and don't seem to look at the shiny ones. I can't figure this fascination out but someday I will leave it a psychiatrist to unwind.

Once again, great progress!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Yes I hope to share more info on the project (especially to go along with my pictures). Once I get them all in one place and on one hard drive I can get them in a chronological order and post some. It will come. I am now just very anxious to get her complete enough for some driving. I think once I can take a drive or two I will relax a little and it will be ok then to take more time to finish up. I am just going through serious withdraws from not being able to drive it. As far as helping others with info or tips, I am more than happy to help where I can. I would also say to the group to not be afraid to tackle any projects on your Mach 1's from mechanical to paint. Don't be afraid to research them here as there is a huge wealth of knowledge in the group, so don't be intimidated to dive in and ask for help if needed.
