70 Boss 302 - Night Mission build blog
#11
Hello Everyone,

I have really neglected to keep this build thread updated as I should an will try to get my thumb out of a certain orifice to ensure that this doesn't happen again!

After an unfortunate delay in the progress of life in general, we're back in the shop and making smoke! New trunk lid and rear valence work is well on its way and things are looking pretty good! Gapping panels ain't much fun, but it sure is worth the effort!

Nice to see you back and I agree with you in regards to gapping panels. It's a lot of work but it's work that pays off. I ended up having to split rear valance in half then add about a 1/4 inch of weld on the RH side to get my gaps right. See link below:

You do nice work!

Had some time in the past few weeks to make some good progress on the rear body panels. Gapping and smoothing of the trunk lid was the latest on the menu and is shaping up nicely!

Your work is awesome and the attention to detail is phenomenal!! And you welds are undeniably the best I have ever seen. Are you schooled or self taught?

I am humbled by your kind words. To be honest, my welds are nothing compared to some of my mentors. Those fellows are genuine artists!

For the most part, I am self-taught with the exception of the training on the English Wheel and gas welding aluminum I received from a true master of metal work, Ron Fournier. I am very lucky to have Ron only about 20 miles away!

You are definitely a talented guy. I am a beginner welder and anxious to broaden my welding skills. I am considering asking a local guy if he would be interested in possibly teaching me.

Very much appreciated! If you are getting into welding fresh, I would highly recommend looking into a local community college to see what they offer for welding classes. Just about every one in my area offers very good welding instruction courses from beginning to advanced and the price is very reasonable. Some of them even allow you to bring your own welding projects in as part of your instruction process. Might be something to look into. Best of luck and keep us posted!
