I am seeking assistance in identifying this wheel as an original or after-market Cobra wheel. I have not had much luck in finding sufficient information on this wheel to determine what I actually have here.
Here is what I do know: I found this wheel on Craigslist about 3 years ago. The person who I bought it from said he found it at an estate sale.
The wheel measures 15 inches but I believe the Cobra wheels were 16 inches. There are no manufacturer markings on either side of this wheel. However, I did learn the early Cobra/Shelby wheels made by Moto Lita had no markings either. This wheel does have a layered wood finish to it. Researching on the internet I read a posting somewhere that steering wheels with the layered wood finishes were originals...who knows. Overall, this wheel does not show any significant signs of aging for 45+ years old.
If there is anyone out there who has any knowledge about these wheels I would appreciate any feedback you can provide me. I was never looking for an original wheel just happen to stumble accross this one. If this is an after market wheel, I won't be disappointed at all because I think it is pretty cool especially since it surprisingly very light.
