Finally lowered the Mustang this last week. Here are the before and after pics. Opinions welcome.

You have a great looking car! Nice job on the lowering. I think it looks a deal better. I would say that 70 and 73 are my favorites out of the machs. Is your car factory red?

Thanks! I have no idea what red it is as it was already this color when I got it. I do know that it was originally Dark Ivy Green.

Very nice looking Mach 1.

Did it change the ride and handling characteristics much?

Fine example of a 70 Mach 1 and definately sits much better with the lowered suspension. You must feel a huge improvement in the handling performance of the car. Can I inquiry as to what lowering suspension you went with on the upgrade?

When I got the car it was missing couple of key components and it was scary to drive. Upon further inspection it was found to be without a front sway bar or front crossmember ! I added an Adco 1 1/8 front sway bar and replaced the rear sway bar with an Adco 7/8 bar. For the crossmember I went with the Control freak Heavy duty, Trans Am Style crossmember as it connects the lower control arm to the crossmember.
Out back I went with 1 inch lowering springs @ 153 lbs rate and in front removed approx 3/4 of a coil to get it down and added KYB Gas-Adjust shocks all around. it made a huge difference in cornering ability! It does ride a little stiffer. I hear that cutting the coils has the effect of increasing the spring rate. Anyway it is not a kidney puncher by any stretch.

Oh, forgot to add. I also had the 1" Shelby drop done before cutting the front coils.

Very sharp the dropped suspension looks great, in fact the whole car is awesome. What's it got under that hood scoop?

Looks great! Looks like it is just enough lowering without going too low.

Wow...I could not imagine how it felt driving without a sway bar and cross member installed on the vehicle. I am sure you now know first hand the roll these two components play in the overall engineering of the car.

I am also doing the lower control arm drop on my 66 Mustang along with lowering springs in the rear. I plan on installing big block coils up front and will cut until I get the desired height. I did this set up once before and ended up being my favorite upgrade dollar for dollar. Aesthetically the rear of the car squatted and the nose was up just enough to give it an overall good looking stance not to mention the handling performance improved greatly.

Thanks! I am running a Tuff dawg 351c 423hp, 430ftlb, crate motor with a TKO 600 tranny. No need to pop the clutch. just give it a little gas and start saving for new tires!
