A bit off topic but...

A few days ago I got a 1989 F-150 with the 4.9 straight six EFI and 5 spd tranny with less than 130k miles on the rebuilt engine and tranny... body has 400k miles on it but surprisingly it does not have any dings dents or serious damage to it its pretty good condition for an 89 but it does have a lot of surface rust that will come off with a quick sanding no rust that goes through any pannels or floorboards or the bed either the worst spot is the tailgate its a little rough as if it was left down and backed into something lol but thats the only damage. and the best part is i got it for $600.00 title in hand no running problems and tranny shifts fine clutch in good shape...
im gonna get some pics and what not up i know its not a mach 1 or nuthin but it will be used to take the mach 1 places eventually lol i plan on rebuilding the engine again myself to ensure no shortcuts were made and all that fun stuff re paint it probobly color code D3 (torch red) lol to match the mach 1 but itll be fun to have a project again. If anyone has input about this truck let me know cause I have never had a straight 6 but i have been told that with proper care they can last a million miles lol but anyway give me input on this and ill keep it updated.

To be perfectly honest Victor you got one of the best combinations, you can get. The 300 six or 4.9 as you called it, is a dinosaur. It is probably one of the toughest engines Ford ever built. I can tell you from my direct experience, since I've owned both an 87 F150 with a 302v8 and currently own a 94 F150 with a 300 straight 6, both with the 5 speed trans, the 300/ 6 will out pull the 302 all day long. The 302 doesn't even come close. I pull an 18 ft car trailer all over the place loaded and empty, and while I loved both of my trucks I would take the straight 6 every time. If there was a complaint, it would be that the straight 6 sounds terrible even with split duals and glass packs, it sucks. But I can live with it. So believe me you have the best you can get. Oh, another good thing is you can get parts anywhere and the prices are resonable. On top of that it's near indestructible. If you take care of it, you could easily see several hundred thousands of miles. Good Luck JTS 71 Mach1

the truck runs and drives ok needs new breaks and probably a new clutch but its a solid truck and i know a thing or 2 about straight 6 engines so a little TLC and proper maintenance since this poor thing hasn't had it in a while she will be a great running truck to haul my mach 1 around in.
