MACH 1 CONCEPT for the future that may come to fruition
#1

was the most recent look at the mach 1 that did not end up happening however has been getting looked at again.

This is the latest concept of the possible mach 1 design and is still being worked on so hopefully maybe a new mach 1 will come around by 2015

Too bad that first one did not pan out - right color and everything!

Still, the second one doesn't look too bad either.

I agree with Steve. The first one still maintains a strong very recognizable and staying true to the Mach 1 body with only subtle changes in the right places. The second one is starting to stretch the body a little bit too much for my liking. Personally, I am preferential to the first one. Ford should consider marketing the second concept as a Cobra rather than a Mach 1 (opinion only) where the body lines seem to be going to. It may grab interest and turn more heads.

Personally i agree to both the first one is more suited to the mach 1 and the second oen should DEFINATELY BE THE SALEEN it matches the saleen look much better than a cobra look. but thats my opinion but either way just to see the mach 1 re re released would be nice lol

All the modern mach 1 prototypes seem stuck in the 69/70 design language, like the 03/04s were:
stripes
shakers
window louvers
colors
upholstery

They should step up the design and integrate the specific 71-73 design features into the next version.
stripes
colors
ram-air hood
upholstery
body trim

I think I will like the new Mustang "performance" model no matter what they call it.
However, I hope they don't screw up the history of the name. If they are indeed going to use the venerable "Mach 1" name, then I feel it is only right to pay some sort of subtle homage to the history of the name without embarrasing the name. I feel this way because Ford basically abandoned the name "Mach 1" in 1980 after 5 years of abusing the integrity of the name by reducing it to a "tape-and-paint" option on the flaccid, toothless Muatang II...no performance of any kind, just a cheap money-grab.
The 5 original years of the "Mach 1" (69-73) legacy are what cemented it into the long-term meory of car biffs everywhere. No one talks fondly about a Mustang II "Mach 1" for the most part.
Have you ever heard anyone say: "I used to have a really kick-ass '77 Mach 1...fastest car in my neighborhood!"?

The 03-04 editions were a good effort from Ford. Great engine and drivetrain, some respectable and revererant "mach 1" design features and no cheap-ass "tape & paint only-pkg" avaialable to spoil the memory.

A new Mach 1 should make some reference to the legendary Mach 1s of years ago through some of its appearance and design features.

On the other hand, if Ford is just going to utilize a completely new and original "theme" for the car without any obvious visual call-back to the classic "Mach 1" look, then they should abandon the name "Mach 1" and just come up with something new and original.

And on another related note, I personally feel the "GT" moniker is played out.
I never much cared for the name "GT" anyway, probably because it was a rung below the "Mach 1" on the performance ladder.
Ford has been cashing in on the "GT" name on a Mustang ever since '65 to '69, and then non-stop every since 1982...that is 32 years of continuous use, well-played-out as far as I am concerned. Only 11 years out of a near-50 year history has not seen a "Mustang GT".

I SOOOOOOOO agree .... however my sources say that the mach 1 look wont be as accurate with the body style theyr going to ... so it will be interesting to see if ford makes another one fo their legendary mistakes ... that they rebound from 5 years down the road lol
