Why would you not believe the tire manufacturers would sell old stock over your safety? I believe it that's for sure, in fact I just checked my Trans Am and my BFG TA Radials were manufactured 1999 that I purchased last summer and I called Discount Tire and they told me to come in and they would replace them free of charge.
If they are willing to do this you can bet there's truth to this!

I believe that there are old tires being sold as new tires but not sure if I believe that there is anything wrong with that. Thats kewl that the company you purchased them from is going to replace them for you. Ask them if they will send the old ones to me. I'll install them on my Mach :) Probably better then the 11+ year old ones that are on it now.

Interesting video, thanks for posting. I was not aware of the date code. I usually just look for dry rot on the outside of the tire before I start worrying about replacing them. I do remember the tread on my original Firestone tires on my 73 Convert came apart on at least two of them when they were about 2 years old. I swore off buying Firestone's after that.
Now I need to go out and check the date codes on our vehicles.

I have the original spare in my 72 Mustang. I would not hesitate to use it in an emergency. If these old tires were stored in high heat conditions that might affect them but I think this is a case of looking to hype up fears over something that may be a one in a million problem.

I hear you! However Id rather pass this on so you guys are informed instead of keeping it to myself and then wish I had later. I probably would agree about the hype, but since Discount Tire agreed immediately to replace mine free there has to be more to this than hype. There isnt anybody giving stuff free these days! Especially 4 brand new BFG TA Radials!
