I'm Running V-Belts, This engine never got hot when it was in the Granada. I will pull the cover on the "new" pump and look at it.. I may depending on what I find post pics of the two. I do know the "new" pump does not have any casting numbers on it at all I guess that because it's not a reman. I may try changing to a 24" radaitor as well. I can also say DON"T BUY PARTS FROM AUTOZONE FOR THESE CLASSIC CARS I Have had nothing but issues with their parts.

I have to agree, the people at Auto Zone only know what the computer tells them. Otherwise 95% of them wouldn't know there azz from a hole in the ground! JTS 71 Mach1

Something else to think about: A 4 bbl carb will get better gas mileage than a 2 bbl, because the front jets are smaller than a 2 bbl. as long as you don't kick in the back 2 bbls.
A 2 bbl needs larger jets so it can run at high rpm.

Remove the thermostat and see what happens.

I used a "failsafe" stat, when it overheated it locked the stat in the open position. I noticed that at low RPM the water circulated fairly well, with higher RPM's it tries to push the coolant out the filler neck. I thought at first the system may be "airlocked" but if it was the coolant would not circulate at low rpm's it would try to push the coolant out as well.

I pulled the "new" pump and took off the cover there was about 3/16" to 1/4" gap under the impeller , when I checked the original pump there was only about 1/64 gap,( big difference) I changed the intake also but noticed my new brake booster was hissing under the dash so I took it off and sent it back to have it replaced. no brakes so I will drive the car in a few days. I did run it for about 30 min and it never got over 160 DEG. I will know more after I get the brakes going. I have 2 temp units on this intake 1 in front and 1 in back I want to see if one end heats up faster or if the temp stays consistant, that will tell me if it is a circulation issue.

It will be interesting to see what the story tells.

I'm still waiting on the brake booster to get here, almost 2 weeks and no booster
hopefully it will be here today... I'm ready to see if this car is fixed : changed the pump, changed the stat, replaced the shroud (the other one was broken), straightened all the cooling fins in the radiator that were bent, changed the intake, replaced the 2 1/2" fan spacer with a 1 3/4" spacer, set the timing to 4 DEG btdc. we'll see what it does after I get the booster back on.

As for the lower hose that Steve inquired about,My 428 would run the same , but as the rpm went up the pump would suck the hose into itself. dose it have the spring in it, if it came from a cheap parts store it might not be there, this might not be notice while driving,
