I am new to the site and new to Mach 1 ownership (1970 351C, shaker hood). Before I purchased the car it was advertised as a complete nut and bolt restoration. In getting familiar with the car I have found somethings that didn't get touched, the biggest being the exhaust. The car is essentially original including what I would suspect to be factory correct chalk marks, but of course have no way of verifying them. Anyway I would appreciate suggestions on exhaust system upgrades. I am looking at the Magnaflow 3" stainless system. Anybody use this and is it worth the money?

Second question, and I have looked through all the major mustang suppliers for this part, it appears to me that the Ebrake handle is missing a clamp our support to attach it to the dash. Can anyone send me a picture of their setup or do you know if a clamp exits. It is just hanging there, and it does not pull straight. It wants to go towards the drivers door when you disengage the ebrake.

Thank you.

A few thoughts on your exhaust upgrades. First an engine is nothing but an air pump, the more you can get in & the more you can get out the faster it will go. That being said, the 3" will definetly move more exhaust. Not to mention a deep healthy rumble. You didn't say if you were going to use headers or not? The headers are highly recommended, or you will not get the full benefit of the 3' exhaust, kinda like putting a choke in the middle. As far as the stainless part. It will damn sure never rust, and will probably outlast the car. So I quess it would come down to how much money you got in your pocket and if you want to turn loose of it. Good luck.
PS I can't remember about the E brake release having a clamp, but if it doesn't pull straight it may be bent? JTS 71 Mach1

JUST FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE...I BOUGHT THE 2 1/2 INCH STAINLESS FOR MY 69 WITH A 351 AND THE DOWN PIPE KIT...IT LOOKS AND SOUNDS GREAT BUT DON'T PLAN ON PUTTING IT ON YOURSELF UNLESS YOU HAVE PIPE BENDER BECAUSE THEIR IDEA OF "BOLT ON" WITH A FEW MODIFICATIONS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE..AFTER ABOUT 3 HOURS AND POUNDING MY HEAD AGAINST THE WALL I TOOK IT TO AN EXHAUST SHOP THAT SPENT OVER 5 HOURS MAKING IT FIT RIGHT...SO MY $650 EXHAUST WENT TO $1000...SO IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND THE MONEY OT HAVE THE TOOLS TO DO IT, IT IS WORTH IT WITH THE LOOK AND SOUND

Thanks for the help guys. The comments on the exhaust are discouraging since the schematic on the website looks like it is tailored for the car and a connect and go product.

By all means call the advertising company to see what they guarantee. The 69/70's usually are specifically made products but the normal review of exhaust is what has been mentioned above.

It would seem to me that it would not be that hard to have a system that fits well but for some reason such is not normally the case. Whichever way you choose to go, please give us your review so that others who follow can benefit from your experience!
