I'm getting ready to convert my 1970 351C from an automatic (FMX) to new five speed manual. I'm also looking at swapping out the rear end 3.00 non-posi for a 3.50 posi.

From personal experience the world class T5 such as used in most late model GT mustangs would be a good choice behind a 351c (small block bolt pattern). Avoid the std. T5 (4cyl) as they are only good to about 300 ft lbs. of torque, and while Iv'e seen them behind stronger motors. They don't usually live to long. Just a little food for thought. JTS 71 Mach1
Thanks for the tips and info. This will be a true garage project without any sopecial tools just floor jacks, jack stands and a few air tools. I will post pictures once I get started. In the mean time if anyone else wants to share more info; please do. Thanks again!
My son and I did the T-5 into his 1970 Maverick. His car started as a manual transmission but we did convert from linkage to cable. We used a weld on cam for the clutch pedal and all went smooth and the car runs nicely.
On my 73 Mach 1 I am hoping to go with a hydraulic setup but very few conversion pieces are made for the 71-73 years. I believe the market is supported somewhat better for the 69/70's.
On the transmission side everything was a factory fit. We were even able to use the stock drive shaft in length and yoke. The car was a three on the tree so we simply cut a hole with a hole saw in the location that was needed for the shifter using a Hurst shifter from a donor maverick 3-speed.
