Hello All,
Thanks for letting me in the club. I have a 71 Mach 1, and it had a 69 351w in it. I had an idiot rebuild it for me, so I took what he did. Unfortunately, he increased the compression to over 13:1 and I had to scrounge around to find race fuel at over $7 a gallon. In Nashville, TN. So, I found an engine from the Ford engine test program that was tested as a 94 351 in a F150 Lightening. I found the engine in an old rebuilders shop. He had lost it in the junk at the back for almost 20 years. Yep, a barn find of an engine.
Has the GT heads and all. Well, that is better than finding race fuel. So, I took out the 69 engine on my 72nd birthday with help from a younger friend. Only 71. It is just about to go back in, after having David Kee rebuild the 4 speed.
Considering that I had never done an engine swap before, I really had fun doing it. But right now it is only 40 degrees with no heat in the garage, so I quit until it warms up.
A question. Why doesn't anyone rebuild 71 to 73 tachs. Mine is in the car, but won't work. It is wired correctly as I bought the download manual, but would like to get it rebuild. Any thoughts? Sorry I am so long winded, but I am warming up my fingers from mating the engine to the trans in 40 degrees.
I could write a book on how much fun I had doing this, but you all are in the same boat or you wouldn't be in this forum.
