Hard Pedal
#1
Hello all,

Been a while since I posted. Well Yesterday I got my car back after getting a new carb installed. Well my question is the HARD brake pedal after I picked the car up. The brakes were working fine before I dropped it off. It feels as if the booster is not working. The car is old and none of these parts have been replaced since new. I figured it could be a good chance the booster just gave out all of a sudden. A while back I had my brake pads, rotors replaced with new SSBC parts and they worked nice.

Please correct me if Im wrong but the hard pedal has to do with a faulty brake booster am I correct?

Any feed back would be great.

Thx

Booster works off manifold vacuum....I'd double check to see if you have plenty of vacuum at the booster first. I suspect the carb change has something to do with your hard pedal.

Sounds like something has gone awire with your vacuum. The booster should have main vacuum from the base of the carb.

Just trace the hose from the booster back to the carb and look for cracked connectors or a crack or break in the hose.

I'm getting a hard brake pedal after initially ok braking. The booster seems to be working and the vacuum line to it is new.

Is it possible the back brakes are adjusted too close and limiting pedal travel? If I slam on the brakes the back ones lock up but the front ones don't.

To come to a complete stop on a downhill I have to really stand on the pedal.

Suggestions?

It sounds like you could have a portioning valve problem. If you're saying the pedal feels initially good but then only the rear brakes will lock up. Front discs are designed not to lock up. But you should be able to tell they are working. Another possible cause is to low a vacumn due to a radical cam causing the booster to be ineffective, and the hard brake pedal. And you could still have a booster problem. SCo_hmmthink Give us a little more description of the problem and maybe we will be able to narrow it down some more. Good Luck
