Thanks in Advance for your Time!
I'm From Dallas Texas and I am begging to invest my time in educating myself in the mustang mach 1. I understand their is always the responsibilities of respecting the car and having a passion for applying yourself with a full commitment "I am Sweating now to avoid bleeding on the field" My question to the Club is What are some expectations to have with owning a 1972 Mustang Mach 1 and what are the things to be aware of...as a future buyer, owner and collector!
Thanks Again

Welcome to the site!
In response to your poll I think you will find a lot of great info here about the Mach 1's. If you can't easily find the answer searching the site, just ask in a thread. No such thing as a dumb question here. Everyone seems to be very helpful on this site. As far as finding a Mach 1 to buy, in my opinion, find the best body you can as the mechanical parts are easier to fix. The worst rust is usually in the cowl area (in front of the windshield), torque boxes, floors, trunk floors, and quarter panels. Lots of good restoration parts are available now that the 71/73's area gaining in popularity.

Welcome Evsword,
The best way to educate yourself would be to ask the questions that interest you first and then proceed to those that present themselves that need an answer.

Welcome to Mach 1 Club.
Owning and maintaining one of these top breed classics can be time consuming and expensive, but very rewarding. I own and drive 3 vehicles but only in my Mach do I get total strangers complimenting it. Even in dilapidated state they are eye candy to the classic group.

Evsword,
Welcome to the site. You will find great people here with incredible knowledge about the Mach 1.
I purchased my Mach 1 last September. Since then I have committed myself to learning as much as I possibly can before I do anything to my car. I would suggest that in addition to spending as much time here as you can, to join a local Mustang club. I have joined two here in Michigan. Also, spend time talking to people who work at your local parts dealers. You will be amazed what you can learn there too. The knowledge you will acquire will be amazing. You will also find it absolutely fun and "addicting" trust me, there are many others out there. The other thing I have done is to put together a plan of what I need and want to do to my car. A plan is great way to learn and prioritize your steps in what you do to the car.
Take your time. It's all fun!

Just be sure you build your car, be it a Mustang or otherwise, the way YOU want it. If you're into day one resto. then do it. If you want, like many of us, to make tasteful & manly reversible changes. Or go all out. Beauty is in the eye of the owner, or driver. Don't wring your hands trying to decide if you should keep the original beige color or paint it red, bright red! If that's what you want then do it! Do as much or as little of the work yourself as you deem appropriate. There are a few cars that due to rarity or pedigree (aka Boss 302) that demand subtle if any modification. But you could buy a 70 sportsroof, with a 351c and paint it like the boss you covet! As long as you're forth-wright about it, if and when you sell it, I say why not? I've ran into a few people that say they don't like the "big" 71-73 mustangs. That's good for me because it costs less to buy parts for a less desirable model. Personally I love the 71-72 Mach 1's, but that's just me. I do get numerous complements on it when I drive it! As you'll come to see, there are some very knowledgeable people on this web-site. I haven't met a rude one yet. And believe me I've asked some pretty stupid questions, but I , like you, want to learn as much as possible about the cars that make my heart go pitty patter a little quicker.
Welcome aboard, and keep your hands inside the ride cuss here we go!!

I would suggest not spending money based on collector value. If you put 30k into one and think your going to get 60k for it, Id say you'd be in trouble. But if you build it because you like it, then no matter what you spend it is something you like and value means nothing.
A lot of people don't like the 71-73 Mustangs but true classic car guys like all years and styles of classic cars.
Anyway,
Always know, unless your Mach 1 has some special collector value the average 71-73 Mustang Mach 1's probably have a ceiling of about 25k, Ive seen them go for more but those have usually been resto modded or something unique about the car.
Bottom line is don't get in over your head, the car has to have value to you to invest in it, but in reality, cars are, and can be a bad investment. Do it for the love of the hobby and none for cash value. IMHO.

Listen don't buy into the People don't like 71-73 Mustang crap. I've owned a 72 Mach1 for 30 yrs now and Its incredible how many people love to see my car. I've had people especially Young people yell to me how nice my car is and people of all ages seem to be surprised when they see it. It's just that compared to early cars you just don't see them very often. I always get a kick when someone in the car next to me at the traffic light gives me the thumbs up or rolls down the window of there Honda just to tell me how much they love my car and what year is it. I think these cars a gaining in value and popularity all the time and I can't wait until spring just to drive it again. Welcome to the club and if you have any questions about your 72 feel free to ask if I don't know the answer someone else here will. As far as what to look for when shopping for a 71 -73 rust is your enemy and the cowl area can be expensive to fix but even that's not a deal breaker.

Welcome! Wow, it is easy to spend $50k to restore a $30k car. +1 on the 'Rust is you enemy' theme. Rust removal is $$$ - mechanical repairs are only $$. $ if you can handle a spanner. Looks? I happen to think the '69 is one of the best looks, but when people want my opinion - they give it to me. Choose the one you like the best. Go for the best factory optioned example you can find. Repairing the existing is easier than retro fitting, IMO.
