Holley Carb Tech Needed
#1
I purchased a used Holley carb the other day from a street vendor here in my area. I bought it and the spacer for about $40.00 so I didn't think that I could go to wrong.

The list number is 9895 and the date number is 3052.

From what I can come up with it is a Model 4175, 650 CFM with vacuum secondary, a spread bore and electric choke. It is produced for replacement on small block Generic Motor V-8's.

The spacer is an Edelbrock 2696 Square bore to Quadrajet adapter.

Here then is where I need help:

# 1 - Can I use this on my 351 C - automatic application?
# 2 - Do I need to replace the linkage setup?
# 3 - Does Holley sell the linkage I need if it must be replaced?
# 4 - Dumb question - Is the bolt pattern the same?
# 5 - Pro's and Con's of running a spread bore.

Hi Steve, Is the intake you're using either a 72 or 73? If it is, the carb should physically work as far as the throttle bore sizes without using the adaptor. You will have to measure the mounting stud spacing on the carb. and intake to make sure they're the same. You'll also have to either buy or make a gasket for mating the two. Be sure to take into account the manifold's heat riser/choke stove provision (if it has one) when choosing/making the gasket. The carb. pictured does not appear to have a ford type trans. kickdown lever. Holley does (did) make these in aftermarket kits, however they don't seem to work as well as carbs that were designed for fords at the factory (Holley). Drivability-wise, spreadbore carburetors tend to exibit what I call the bog-factor as the overly large secondaries tend to lean the engine out when they start to open if the carburetor is not set up correctly. You will probably experience a lot of trial and error with this combination. Also take into consideration the time and cost of rebuilding the carb, and possibly having to have the lower throttle plate machined as these are notorious for warping. Hope this helps - GXR

Thanks GXR,

Yeah, most of the counsel I have gotten is to continue looking and i actually don't even have to do that as Don from Ohio Mustang Supply has come to my rescue once again. I will pass this carb along to someone running a Government Motors and go genuine.

I actually don't have the intake manifold yet. My motor is a 351C 2V and I am looking to use an after market intake.
