My Introduction to Mustangs
#1
Here in New Zealand the Mustang has always been looked at as an icon, something that many car lovers only ever dreamed about.Back in the 70's there were not many in the country and only those in the"Know"were able to import them.I can remember as a Kid (early teens) when ever seeing one parked or about to be driven away trying to get up close to hear that V8 start up.As the years have passed(many) and I have collected a number of cars-Mercedes Jaguar Porsche etc a good friend has a beautiful 69 Fastback, which got me thinking why not a Mustang? So the search began and I finally settled on a 66 302 N/back.I traveled to Christchurch in the Sth Island of NZ,paid over my $35000.00 dollars and drove out of the dealers yard.
After only a couple of K's I thought what the Hell have I done,I must be having a midlife crisis,I'd paid more for this car than some of my Mercedes convertibles-half an hour later I was getting into it,that rumble, the guys at the gas station, where y"d you get this beaut etc. Finally reaching home 1000k's later I was smiling from ear to ear.I have since added a beaut 73 Mach1 to the stable.I was parked at the kerb the other day when I heard a young man say to his parents-just wait I want to hear that mustang start up! Some tastes never change Biggrin

Beautiful story Bruce Mac.

I certainly hope you gave the young man a symphony of sound to dream on! Years from now he will be relating his Mach 1 / Mustang story to the next generation.

Good on ya.

Cool story. I'm sort of the same way still. I love to be next to a Mustang when it starts just to try to hear what exhaust there running!

I'm sure in New Zealand driving a Mustang down the street is the equivalent of being a Rock Star!

Thanks for sharing!

Amazing story. Really touching. And lastly there is nothing quite like the sound of a mustang.
