what a great site.i am close to driving my 73 out of the shop.i noticed while rolling the car forward by grabbing the driver side tire [rear] that it was kinda feeling like a grumbling in the gear.the steering wheel was turned to the left.is this common for a traction lok. it stopped when i straightened the front wheels.so i guess i should just always go straight right.i am also overwhelmed at the amount of work and $ it will take to bring the car up to par.its a solid car but upon cutting out the headliner i have rust on the roof and that leak on the ds side back seat caused rust there also i need to stop it,it never sleeps. and i notice rust inside the doors also because i had to grind off the inserts for the rear view mirrors because the screws were froze and i drilled them out to take off the mirrors for some reason.R those inserts riv nuts ? or should i just nut and bolt the mirrors back on?i am dying to drive the car here in the mntns of VA,i will get pics soon.i hope.what a great site.good wkend see ya monday thanx.

Not sure about your rearend noise.
The mirrors have inserts that you press back in the door. Try Ohio Mustang or CJ Pony parts, they are not very expensive.
Don't get discouraged, just keep plugging away and you will have the car on the road in no time.

I think what you were hearing/feeling is just the clutches grabbing as the tires are rotating at different speeds due to having the wheel turned. Which is normal you wouldn't even notice it if the car was running. There could be other causes but this the most likely. JTS 71 Mach1

For what it's worth. A friend from A shop that does alot of work on older cars said it was nornal. Mine did the same thing & I put it on A trailer and brought it to him. He did pull an axel to look at the splines but said they were fine. Tony

Make sure your fluid level is topped off before you drive it.

well i drove the car and she needs some attention.i have 2 holes in the radiator it is just falling to pieces.its old.the car runs well at idle but under load it pops and sputters.which i expected because that old accel dual point and the fact the carb has sat.i have other issues too.massive chatter in reverse.i hope adjusting the clutch helps.and when i brake in reverse i can feel a good amount of shift.the first curve i steered thru was surprising.im not use to manual steering.the car seems to handle like a boat.i will tear it down spend some $ thanx for your input .
