I'm wondering how much say Carroll himself actually has these days. No doubt the company is actually run by a bunch of young bean counters. Carroll may or may not have veto power when it comes to such things as Shelby bicycles.

I do not even think that that bicylce is the right one if they had to go and make a "Shelby" bike. It looks vintage era not muscle car era. No, this is wrong.

Your exactly right there was a time when the name SHELBY meant something. In the very early 70's Carroll was displeased with the size, girth, and lack of performance. From Ford's version of his pony car, that Carroll asked them to take his name off them, if they were'nt going to build them his way. This is why the Shelby mustang didn't last past 1970. What they had left over they changed the front end on and called them 71's. Thus came an end to the first generation Shelby's. Unfortunetly like everyone else there are bills to pay. With the economy down so bad it looks like he sucummed to it. It really pains me to think he would really do it! Looks like INTEGRITY is just a word after all, it's getting harder to find someone who knows what it is . Not just how to spell it! I'm disappointed!

If you check out the Shelby American website it shows Carroll as the founder with John Luft as the President whose duty among others is marketing! But you would think Carroll would still have some input into these type of decisions!

As I understand it, in 1969 Carroll Shelby was displeased because Ford was producing the Mach 1 and Boss Mustangs which were direct competitors to Shelby Mustangs. Thus, Ford and Shelby parted ways in 1969. The 1970 Shelby Mustangs were leftover 1969 models.
It's certainly possible Carroll Shelby didn't like the new 1971 model of the Mustang. Other than your post above, I've never heard anything about it. I'd be interested in anything you heard or read on the subject.

Considering his age and health, I think it's likely Carroll himself is quite literally nothing more than a marketing figure with no involvement in the modern company whatsoever.
I did some poking around and found something interesting. I wasn't aware of this, but a few 1971 and 1972 Shelby Mustangs were produced, but only for the European market. They were actual 71 and 72 model Mustangs; not leftovers from previous years. Apparently, these are the rarest Shelby Mustangs of all. I kinda like the green example.

It is my attempt to add color to life - the color of my Mach 1. I know it is a bit harder to read though. We'll see how it continues.

Sorry I didn't reply back sooner I can't find the article. I have several books on Carroll, Shelby's and Mustangs. The one thing I didn't state quite correctly from the article is that the rebodied 69's that became the 1970 model were very slow to sell and the last of them were sold in 1971 as left overs. They were 1970 models. So that was my fault. The statement about Carroll's displeasure with the size and girth of the car was correct. I simply didn't add the last part which is also true about the Mach1 and Boss being in direct competition with his cars and since Ford wanted him to change them from the performance cars they had been, to a luxury sports car. Thanks for following up. I can understand his frustration. While the later Shelby Mustangs were way cool, they had already started to morph into "luxury sport" cars. With insurance companies getting uptight, I can also understand why Ford was wanting to scale back true performance. (Major bummer.)
