need help, upgraded my manual brakes with a power booster. new lines new booster and master cylinder. system has been bled, but the brake pedal is hard. when pressing the brake pedal the pedal does not return to its original place. take the vacuum off the booster and the brake pedal returns. changed the booster and master same problem. vacuum measures out to 16 in.

when you replaced the booster, did you use a new one way vacuum valve?..

I like don was wondering the same thing about the valve but was thinking the pedal may be hanging up at the pivot under the dash? Just a thought.

thanks for replying guys, havent tried the solution yet. but it was explained to me that since I have four wheel drums- I dont need the proportioning valve. just to use 10lb residual valves. one for the front and one for the rear. will let you know how this works out for me.

First you have manual brakes . To just add a master cyinder with a power booster and vacuum line to the motor is not going to work . Manual brakes are manual brakes with out any kind of power any thing to stop the car . The full setup needs to be changed from the start . The full setup must be for power brakes all the way throw as well as at the wheels . So spend the money to fix every thing the right way . Then you can enjoy your ride safely . Any job you do is worth the time and care to make it right . Work the bugs out first don,t drive it untill it,s safe . Have a very long life .
