Hi Guys, I own a 1971 Mach 1 and presently the exhaust exits underneath the rear valance with turn downs. I really like the look of the valance that has the exhaust cutouts and the exhaust coming straight through. Was this an optional item on a 1971 Mach? Was it included as a certain package or a certain engine size? I would like to put it on my Mach but if it could not have been ordered that way from the factory, I would not do it.
Thanks,
Mike

The rear valance you speak of,
I believe it came anytime the vehicle was ordered with dual exhaust from the factory. I don't believe it was regulated to any one certain engine, just dual exhaust. Anybody else know more?

I'm pretty sure you are correct on that one. Those panels are available; I think there under a $100 if you shop around.

I believe this rear valance was a dealer add on with the front spoiler and the rear deck spoiler on 71-73 Mach 1's.

The rear valance panel with dual cutouts was factory-installed on mach-1's only, and then, only if the vehicle had 351-4V, or 429 engine. Mach-1's with 302-2V, and 351-2V came from the factory with a single exhaust and standard valance. Non-mach-1 mustangs factory-equipped with 351-4V and 429 engines came with dual exhausts, but had the standard valance and tailpipes with turn-downs. Boss 351 cars also came with the standard valance and turn-down tailpipes. The dual cutout valances look cool and most guys use them when they install a dual system.
