Thank you and nice day !!!

Id check all the bulb sockets, sometimes corrosion gets in these sockets and cause the issue your speaking of. While your checking all the sockets Id change all the bulbs.
Although this might not fix your issue it is the cheapest way to start, otherwise it might be an electrical issue.

Your 4 way flasher is on a separate circuit from the headlights.
neither the park lights or tail lights work when just the 4 ways are on. I'm thinking you are getting a feed back from one of your bulb sockets or you have a poor ground to 1 or more of them.
I also remember replacing a lot of headlight switches , they would overheat and the lights would blink on and off.

The headlight switch probably needs to be replaced. I believe they have a circuit breaker in them that will cause the headlight to cut off if it overheats, but will comeback on later. Good advice on checking all the electrical connections, bulbs and sockets first. I believe the headlight switches are fairly inexpensive, like under $20. I bought one for my 73 from AutoZone a few years ago. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Yes Rare Pony you are correct there is a circut breaker in the headlight switch itself. The part that concerns me is the switch gets hot? While it will get warm during normal use, due to the amount of current flowing through it. But it should not get hot! If it is getting hot then you most likely have some wires crossed somewhere, wether it is from wires damaged, miswired, or corrosion. Any of the 3 can cause your problem. I once used a torch on my 67 ranchero and even though I couldn't see the damage, I had got the wires hot enough they melted together and caused a short which would overload the head lights when the turn signals were used. Talk about a bugger to find, it took six months!

If I'm not mistaken, I encountered a similar problem about 30 years ago when I restored my 1st mach - a 71. As I recall, the mach-1 (with it's driving lamps) light switch has a higher amp rating than the standard mustang headlight switch - and believe it or not - a different factory part number. I'm going back a ways but might be worth a shot. Modern aftermarket replacement switches might not note a difference. My headlight switch would get hot and the lights would go out until it cooled off. I found out later that the original switch had been replaced with a used unit from a standard mustang coupe. The unit I replaced it with came out of a mach-1 parts car and it was different.

Not sure but I think it's mounted behind the glove box.
