A 1972 Q-code came from the factory with dual exhaust.
Did it have a H or X pipe when it came from the factory ????

As far as I know, all cleveland 4-v's (at least from '71-'73) came from the factory with the same "H" pipe. I'm not sure if there's a slight variation between auto. vs. 4 spd.

I owned a 72 Q Code, Gold Glow, with 37,000 original miles on it. It still had the original exhaust system on it--with an H Pipe. my 2 Cents. Tim

I agree with the posts above. I've owned 4 71-72 351C-4V mustangs. all had H pipe. Any vendor care verify this for you.

I just cut the pipes off mine, it was 2 separate pipes with no X or H. Mine is a Q code 4 speed. All of the factory hangers were still on it, but that don't mean it wasn't replaced at some point.

Forgot to mention that my low-mileage 72 Q Code with factory H-Pipe was also a 4-speed.

I should have posted this earlier as it seems you've already ordered the exhaust. I have a 72 Q-code & I had the stock exhaust replaced a couple of years ago. The rear valance on my car has cut outs for the chrome exhaust tips. The system I ordered, however, had pipes that turned down just short of the valance. I did find some exhaust tips that were long enough to exit through the valance, but it's just a small extra hassle.
Best of luck & post pic's!!

Everything I've seen and read indicates an H pipe was factory installed. I know mine had an H pipe when I purchased it in 1984. But who knows if or when it was replaced.
