Rear passenger floor pan replacement
#1
Currently deep into a restomod on my 73 Mach 1 found lots of rust under the painted sheet metal( inner aprons, cowl, floor pan) during the replacement of the floor pans I found a nice set from Laurel Mountain Mustang that fit great. Well during the tear down found that the was lots of fiberglass hiding lots of rust holes in both left and right rear passenger floor pans and with my luck no reproduction part. I contacted National Parts Depot and found that they have 2 types of this floor pan both for earlier models. Looking at both decided to try the 66-68 model can be modified to fit 69-70. I asked for the measurement and it was preety close to what I needed to replace.
The only draw back is completely flat especially towards the area where the seat belt bolts to the floor pan. Mine was rusted in many areas so I decided to cut it out and patch it with a heavier gauge steel sheet metal. I am enclosing some pics to show how well it works. This may help others in the same situation I am.

Well, I'm still waiting on the replacement floorpans from a mustang supplier that I shalln't give their name out. In the mean time, I've managed to "paint" the inner rocker panel and the frame rail with "Rust Bullet". Wow that is some really great stuff, y'all should check it out.

I then turned my attention to the rear seat area and welded some new sheet metal to the holes. I used black silicone to "caulk" the seams and then some rattle can rust restorer to cover the rest.

Then I rebuilt the end section of the rockerpanel with new new sheet metal and in the process of finish sanding the top coat to blend it all it. I actually had to use two layers. One layer was what the repop rocker panel from NPD and the other layer was custom bent in the garage. I think it should outlast me...

Spring - at least temps above freezing finally came to the Great Lakes Area and the snow banks have melted, but freezing weather is about to return this weekend. Oh well back to the garage... : - )

Thanks for the update. Looking good. There are evidently a few waiting on parts, myself included (weatherstrip). Probably has to do with having to pay taxes on inventory - therefore no inventory. It will all get there, in the meantime look at the benefit of your down time - "extra" work accomplished. Anyway, it looks good.

Finally finished welding all floor pieces in today will be cleaning up and laying down some chassis saver followed with a good coat of montalinner to rust proof this floor. Not the greatest welding job ( hell i never welded before learning as I go) but it gets the job done, once i fill the welds with duraglass and smooth everything down it will be alright. I think?? Seat pans are in that will be next to weld in.

Great progress, thanks for posting the pictures. I always wanted to try welding, my father could do it, but we did not have the equipement at home for me to try. He did teach me alot about auto repair; as far as that goes about plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work too. Has come in handy all these years.
