(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - Owners of luxury sedans and coupes may want to watch their lead foot, as several models dominated a recently released list of the most-ticketed cars on the road.
The study by Quality Planning , a company that validates policyholder information for insurers, goes against the theory that high-performance cars are the ones getting the most tickets.
The list was compiled by examining various makes and models and comparing the likelihood of each to be ticketed based on the number of moving violations per 100,000 miles driven. Researchers looked at the period between February 2009 to February 2010.
Forbes.com reported that drivers of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class two-door luxury convertible are four times more likely to get a ticket than the average driver.
The Toyota Camry Solara coupe came in second with its drivers 3.5 times more likely to be ticketed. The Scion tC coupe was third with driver 3.4 times more likely to be ticketed.
The rest of the top five included the Hummer H2/H3 (2.9 times) and the Scion xB (2.7 times).
Out of the 10 vehicles, the study showed that only three, the Hummer, Mercedes-Benz CLS-63 AMG and Acura Integra, were more likely to be driven by men.
Sports utility vehicles and minivans dominated the most "cautious" vehicles list, basically those with the lowest percentage of violations. The Buick Rainier SUV came in first with the Mazda Tribute SUV and Chevrolet C/K 3500/2500 tied for second.
The study suggested that the likelihood of carrying passengers, and possibly younger passengers in car seats, could make a difference on how one drives. Such would more often be the case with minivans and sports utility vehicles rather than luxury coupes and sedans.
This is the second year that the study was done. AOL Autos reported the Hummer H2/H3 topped the 2009 most ticketed followed by the Scion tC, the Scion xB and the Mercedes-Benz CLK.
