Toying with the Idea!
#1
Dodgy Hey guy's I been looking intensely at My ruff 72 mach1 and started toying with the Idea of gutting it completely and stretching it over a late model chassis such as my 2008 mustang??? If my car was something special I wouldn't even think of it But it was just another run of the mill mach1. It doesn't even have the staggered shocks (1 in front & 1 in back) that I read came on all mach1's. The vin does have a 5 in it. The second thing is condition. Virtually every interior piece is broke or missing. Have you seen the price of this stuff! and you can't even get some pieces. With out a parts car for the numerous parts that are missing. The cost is estimated 7to 8 thousand just to get the parts to put it together. The floors could use some work as well as the trunk. there is no grill, bumper, brackets, up front. No engine, trans, wires, I ended up with probably the most ripped and stripped mach1 one left on the planet. Which started the Idea. My son and I took some general measurments and were quite amazed at how most of them were within an inch or less in difference, the width was spot on. As was the distance from the radiator support to the firewall. The distance from the firewall to the rear seat was spot on. the biggest thing that was different was the wheel base, It was about 2 inches shorter then the mach1's I have watched several salvage auctions for 05 up mustang gt's. They've sold for 4 or 5 thousand I mainly looked at the roll overs as most of them the body was damaged but not the drivetrain or undercarriage, and was still in useable condition. Which would give you a real resto muscle car! Absolute great handling, all fuel injection ac that works. No trying to resurect the dead as I have so many times before. Like I said I'am just toying with the Idea. It would still be a ton of work But it would be such a better vehicle then the original. Or would it??? Anyone got any thoughts or advice? JTS71MACH! DEFINETLY NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! I've got the skills . Judging from what they did it appears they cut it apart in sections and grafted each one seperatly. If Im do mine I'll keep it in one piece and simply slide it over the prepped chassis structure. Then attach it at the rockers firewall etc. To create a complete structure with fully welded seams for as little flex as possible. Similar as to sectioning a car after a major collision

Keep the video camera rolling and take tons of detailed pictures. If you do that Ill even design you a featured section on this website for that story. Awesome
