2011 Shelby GT350 auction raises $200,000 for charity

A 2011 Shelby GT350 built by Shelby American fetched $200,000 at a live auction to benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation and Garth Brooks’ Teammates For Kids Foundation at the Wynn Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Friday, July 16. Bill Austin, founder of the Starkey Hearing Foundation, won the bidding for the 45th Anniversary Shelby GT350 Mustang prior to Brooks’ special musical performance put on for Foundation guests that evening.

Proceeds from the sale of the high profile muscle car benefited deserving children through Brooks’ Teammates For Kids Foundation in association with The Carroll Shelby Foundation. Shelby and Brooks were on-hand to congratulate the fellow charity founder and award him with a new set of keys.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase the new Shelby GT350 and we were able help a great organization like Teammates For Kids. It’s amazing to have two legends like Carroll Shelby and Garth Brooks teaming up and putting their heart-power into helping so many kids,” said Jenni Shreeves, executive director of The Carroll Shelby Foundation. “The funds we raised will be put to work helping our youth in the race for life.”

Austin will have the opportunity to choose personalized custom options from Shelby American and take an exclusive VIP tour of the Shelby American Las Vegas Facility. The All-American muscle car will also personally be signed by the country music star and the racing legend.

The Shelby GT350 is a post title program; customers purchase a car from their local Ford Dealer, which is turned into a GT350 by the Shelby American Team. A limited number will be built.

Each GT350 is clad in traditional white with Shelby Guardsman blue Le Mans stripes and feature the new Ford V8 coupled to a 6-speed transmission and center exit exhaust. Blue Shelby GT350 valve covers and billet caps set off the supercharged engine. The Baer brake system features a 6 piston kit in the front, as well as 14” ERADISPEED rotors in the rear with cooling ducts for all four corners.

The suspension was upgraded with new Ford Racing springs, struts, sway bars and adjustable caster/camber plates. The car also receives a new front fascia, tail light trim, front splitter, rear deck lid filler panel and rear fascia. Functional scoops are located on the side rockers and hood. GT350 badges on the outside and inside include a Shelby serial number. The A pillar carries a fuel pressure, oil pressure and boost gauge.

“Carroll loves helping kids, from spending time with children battling life-threatening diseases to donating money to find cures and supporting schools that teach young people a valuable skill,” added Shreeves. “We’re excited that this fundraiser will continue that mission well into the future.”
