To whet our collective appetites for the most powerful factory muscle car on the market, Ford released a pair of promotional videos for its 2011 Shelby GT500 coupe and convertible models that show off the rumbling monster on both public and closed roads.
The 550-horsepower GT500 doesn’t get quite the thrashing we feel it deserved, but the videos do at least give us a hint about its potential – and especially its re-tuned exhaust note.
The 2011 Shelby GT500 only promises a marginal power increase over its 2010 predecessor, but the automaker says it has thoroughly reworked the muscular ponycar with an all-aluminum version of the existing supercharged 5.4-liter V8, as well as a myriad of other small changes throughout.
As we learned from Shelby American president John Luft during our exclusive interview last week, the 87-year old namesake, Carroll Shelby, was actively involved in development of the 2011 model’s refresh.
For now, we’ll enjoy the videos – but we’re anxious to get our hands on one of Detroit’s most powerful vehicles.
