Any model builders 'round these parts?

I too was into models  , lost interest , life got in the way .   But I also am looking at getting back into it.
I was always into military stuff , jet planes & battle ships.  I have 5 models in the shed , I was thinking about giving them away but not now.
As much of a car nut I am , I prefer military models.

Ain't nothing wrong with military models, I have some modern fighter jet kits (F-14, F-15E, F-16, MiG-29, etc.), and an Avro Lancaster WWI English bomber I inherited along the way, along with a YB-49 Flying Wing glue bomb rescued from heading to the dumpster at work.  I love building the warbirds as well and plan on more jets and WWII kits.  There are a bunch of military ground vehicles (tanks, half-tracks, armored personnel carriers, etc.) and even some ships (aircraft carriers, destroyers, battleships, Titanic, galleons, etc.) I'd like to find time for as well.  I also have a growing collection of sci-fi ships (Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc.) with many of them being original release kits from the '70s & '80s I picked up from ebay.

I just love building miniature replicas of things I've seen.  I had a lot of fun building a few homes and commercial buildings when I was taking Architectural Drafting classes in high school (that was my dream career, but the Air Force had other plans for the direction my life took).

My goal now is to be able to get through the rapidly expanding list of things I want to build before I eventually run out of time (hopefully, quite a ways down the road).  I've done my full-size car restoration (reminded me of putting together a giant kit at times), so it's time to concentrate on the small scale stuff and just enjoy the Mach 1 now.

I think the reason my interests leans toward the military models, is where I live , we are only 45 minutes away from an old military air base. I think thats my reason toward the military models, I live only 45 minutes away from a former Sac base. (KI Sawyer).   So we were seeing bombers B-52s and other jets  flying over our small town all the time. Base turned over to the local goverment years ago.
As a young boy scout I was able to actually sit inside a B-52 bomber, we also got a tour of the base and up close look at the other jet planes.
And as a young boy , I was around military people , my uncle was a hi ranking officer in the Air Force and a pilot at a  B-52 bomber base in lower Mich.
I would sit on my dads lap at nite and watch war movies with him.

I used to be heavily into it, till I was about 25 or so. Then life and kids took over, and I couldn't leave things laying around for fear of the kids getting into them. So they pretty much got but up. I have a bunch that I had displayed on shelves, but when the house burnt in 07. What wasn't damaged was packed away, and I haven't done to much since. A couple years ago I started to get the itch, and built a model desk with display shelves, power strip, lights, and set up a tool box, to keep all my supplies in. I still have small grandchildren to watch out for so I will still have to keep an eye on things. When (if ever) life slows down a little I intend to get back into building them. The only thing I can't figure out is what the heck happened??? Nobody carries model kits anymore? the only place I've found them is Hobby Lobby, and they think a standard 1/24 scale model is worth $29.95, What the HE double hockey sticks is going on ? Even a lot of the kits on Ebay are nuts??? They claim most companies stopped production of most kits so now they are collector items! Collector Items my AZZ!!! They're unbuilt PLASTIC MODEL KITS for Christ's sake. Has everyone in this world lots their flippin minds???  Just my thoughts.

That little "Drill Master" roto tool you have - where did you get it?  I'm trying to find a Dremel-like roto-tool that won't run so fast it melts more than it cuts.  I have one of the original variable-speed Dremels (10,000-50,000 rpm), but even 10K rpm is just too much.

Harbor Freight, I believe. I looked at it, it is a "Drill Master" brand. The only other place I would have bought it, would be Wal Mart. But I'm pretty sure it was Harbor Freight. It says 16,000 rpm on the back of it. I'm not sure, if it really turns that fast? I haven't had it melt anything I was working with? I've used it for a lot of stuff and I like it. Hope it helps.
