Barret Jackson Auctions

First I'll say I can only watch a few minutes of that auction at a time.  Its almost like a circus that serves alcohol.  Anyway, today I saw a customized and modernized 1969 Sportsroof Mustang sell for well over $100K, I think it was $120K.  Even the interior was customized and fitted with modern seats, console, and most other interior parts.  Then a couple of cars later, a concourse restored 1969 Boss 302 only sold for $60k.  Okay it had a Hurst shifter and an MSD distributor.  And later on when I turned it back on, a 1965 ( I think it was 1965) Shelby GT 350 only sold for $57k.  Am I the only one that doesn't understand why a concourse restored 1969 Boss 302 or Shelby GT 350 would sell for so little compared the customized and modernized 1969 Sportsroof?    Why such a low selling prices for original cars?  Makes no sense to me.

That is partly why I cannot watch that auction for more than a few minutes at a time.  It seems most (not all) people attending that auction are looking for something bright and shiny and don't truly appreciate classic cars.

All, (or most of it ) Barrett Jackson is.  Is my Wad of cash is bigger then your Wad! They have taken our beloved hobby, and over-glorified it, to the point that every idiot out there thinks his Mustang, Cuda, or Camaro, is an absolute priceless artifact that must be "Preserved" right after you hand him an exorbitant amount of money for a car you wouldn't have given 100 bucks for 25 years ago, But Now It's Priceless!!!
So I say Futch Barrett Jackson!!! I'll watch enough to see some nice cars. Then I'm revolted when someone pays stupid money for an overdone POS, and I  change the channel. They have almost ruined the car hobby for the little guy.

Yes, well I would choose a 69 Boss 302 (and) or a 65 Shelby over a Riddler (type) build any and every day.

Why would the custom work cost more?  Buyer's choice, perhaps a younger market?

Mike,

$57k for a 1965 Shelby GT350 is a steal.  Something does not add up.  It must be missing it's entire original drivetrain and then some.

Well if you look at the bidders in the audience, most are middle age and older and drunk.  In my mind I'm convinced they know nothing about collector cars and purchase based on how shiny and something is.

I think JTS71 Mach1's post was a correct description of what goes on at those auctions.
