Today we looked around the engine bay in more detail. Figured out which way the belts are suppose to run. We think. The AC isn't hooked up at all but perplexed at how that belt goes and doesn't rub on the area around the fan shaft. Also interested in what is suppose to be on/attached to the back of the passenger side valve cover (picture below). Also does anyone know what is suppose to be in the hole on the side of the air filter in the upper right of the same picture?
Crawled around the inside to fiddle with the headlight switch. Think we got it working because there are volts at the female connector end now. Thinking we need new headlights. All the other lights have always worked.
Got the base of the backseat out to vacuum more acorns and misc bits and pieces up. Got all the seat belts back in place and working again. Started to remove the driver seat. The back of the tracks are completly rusted out and I need to weld the seat frame back together. Maybe? Hopefully. Might require a few self made braces.
Thanks for sharing the update on the car. The discovery phase can be filled with surprises both good and bad. As far as the backside of the valve cover could it be the location for the PCV valve? Keep us updated on your progress.
On the Ac belt, If memory serves me correctly you should have a 2 groove pulley on the water pump, which the ac belt would ride in as well as the power steering belt. Maybe some else knows more but I think that's correct as my 71 Mach1 had factory AC. After a second look at your pics. I'm not sure, but something doesn't seem right??? JTS 71 Mach1
Thanks! Was just going to respond with that. After reading something didn't look right above I started looking at the pictures here at work. I noticed that same mark and thought to myself, "Idler arm!" Then thats the only part of the AC i havent been able to find with all the parts in the car. The rest of the belts are correct and just need replaced. They are well beyond there useful life.
Any knowledge to the hole in the back of the passenger side valve cover (feels like a piece of metal pipe that was roughly cut off) and the hole for what's missing on the side of the air filter?
